If you can walk, you can dance!
Contradancing features live bands and a caller that teaches the dances and calls them so you need not be experienced to enjoy the fun. Participants come from all sectors of society, incuding children, college students, professors and researchers, workers from all over the area and grandparents. The dance is in two lines with partners across from and facing each other. The moves are similar to square dance moves. You dance with everyone in the two lines as well as with your partner, and it is customary to choose a new partner for each dance. It is a very social dance form, a great way to meet people in a safe and warm environment. At $5.00 for a three hour dance it is not expensive, and the home baked treats, comliments of the local dancers, are delicious. This is a smoke and alcohol free option for spending your Friday night.
The Ithaca contradance takes place most Fridays, from 8:00 PM to 11:00 PM.
