First and foremost, the Electric cinema is just fantastically comfortable. You have a whole leather armchair to yourself, a little shelf on either side to place your drinks, and a fully padded footstool. It’s bloody marvellous.
To further assist you in your mode of near-horizontal relaxation, a bar in the auditorium will sell you a bottle of wine to sip from a proper glass as you settle in for the movie. Or a beer if that’s more your thing.
Previously a notorious fleapit showing dubious "movies" to the raincoat brigade, the cinema has undergone a complete restoration in recent years. Now you are more likely to be sharing your row with some celebrity type, and the only heavy breathing going on is when someone nods off. The bill features a mix of independent films, critically acclaimed big releases, and reruns of old classics.
If you would like to get a little closer to your date, bypass the drinks shelf and book one of two leather sofas at the back of the auditorium. The view isn’t quite as good, but who cares about what’s happening on the screen?
