One of the Tops Shows in Vegas from a Skeptic

I was really skeptical about seeing this show after reading the few negative reviews on this site but I had already seen "O" and took a chance. I was not disappointed. The theatre built for this performance is spectacular. Most shows of this caliber hold twice as many people but Wynn decided to make the show accessible to every guest with great seats for all. You are truly never more than 35-40 feet from the performance even at the top seats. Since it's in the round, there are 3 entrances for the performers and everyone is close to the action.
The acrobatics are fantastic because they don't use harnesses, adding to the thrill of the performance. Most performers are all former Olympic athletes and have the bodies and skill to back it up. Where do synchronized swimmers and gymnasts go to after the Olympics? Now they have a place. Considering the water element, the costumes and mechanical stage flow perfectly together. The music is lovely, the comic relief is minimal and you are never bored. The show is a bit seductive in nature, aren't many dreams really like that? So, don't bring the kids unless they are on the swim team and will appreciate the athletic swimming ability needed to pull this off.
The concessions are luxurious but pricey. One drink should be enough, you'll be entertained and not really want to mess with food anyway. Since they don't try to "pack em in", the lines are not long but you'll want to sit down and admire the theater for a few minutes before the show. The fabric ceiling adds a real vintage circus feel to the show, but it's not there the whole time, admire it early on. Pass on the "champagne circle", you won't have enough time to drink the whole bottle of champagne and the "behind the scenes" tv will distract you from the performance. It's interesting for a few minutes but takes away from the magic of the performance. Try to get a seat by one of the 3 water entrances. No one got wet when we went so don't worry about the front rows.

It's really a difficult show to describe, as the name translates to "The Dream." There is a lot of action, as swimmers dive from the roof and the stage moves from the deepest depth of the pool to about 40 feet in the air. Special effects with water, smoke, and fire make for an exciting show. There's not a bad seat in the house. I would recommend buying the cheapest ticket, as the seating is set in a way that you're not going to miss any action.

Wynn Las Vegas

One of the newest and most elaborate hotel/casinos in Las Vegas is the Wynn. After spending just an evening here, my lasting impression is BIG FLOWERS. The lobby had a canopy of blooming trees with big balls of flowers that look like hydrangeas on steroids. This motif seemed to repeat throughout. There are at least 15 restaurants to choose from. If you crave and can afford fine dining, this is the place for you. The restaurant we chose was from their casual dining list. Terrace Pointe Café overlooks the pool and gardens. Tables are spaced far enough apart that conversation at your table can flow freely and your neighbors don’t jostle you. I had an Asian chicken salad that had the coldest crispest lettuce I have ever been served. And it was huge.

Shopping at the Wynn is not for the faint of heart. These are high-end designer brand stores. Ferrari, Chanel, Dior, Manolo Blahnik, and Cartier to name a few. I actually did find one shop where I bought souvenirs of “Avenue Q” the musical comedy we attended.

The Broadway Theater at Wynn Las Vegas is a $40 million theater built to show Broadway shows rather than the standard Vegas acrobat and magician shows. The first show brought into this theater is the Tony Award winning “Avenue Q”. Two ensemble casts alternate this presentation and I swear we had all the good ones. Humans sing and speak the parts at the same time they manipulate the Muppet-like puppets. Now think about it…that is tricky acting with your face and with your hands to get just the right expression in both places. This is a no kids show, in fact children must be 12 or older to get a ticket. Even then, I would feel uncomfortable bringing kids to see this. Three reasons why: First the language, dialog is sprinkled liberally with naughty words. Second the often-delicate subject matter, it might take more explaining that some parents are ready for. Third the explicit puppet sex, those are imaginative and energetic little beasts! The adults who were in the audience hooted with delight and roared with laughter at songs like: “It Sucks to Be Me”, “Everyone’s a Little Bit Racist”, and “The Internet is for Porn”. The story is a wonderful moral play about dealing with discrimination, self-doubt, and loneliness. We would go to see this one again. Tickets are listed as $99. We did hear that there was a Mother’s Day special of 2 for 1. Rumor had it that this show was coming to the end of its run. I believe the upcoming show will be “Monty Python’s Spamalot.” If it is of the same quality as the “Avenue Q” production I’m sure it will have a long run at the Wynn.

Wynn

It's a nice casino decorated in rich reds and colors. Nice sights, especially the flower gardens and the outside views. Shopping is more on the luxury, high-end stuff.
