My husband and I went with friends and we enjoyed the most delightful evening. The show opened with Little Toby Walker, a solo artist winner of the 2002 Memphis International Blues Challenge. Toby is a singer, songwriter and storyteller. After Toby, Frank Latorre and his band, The King Bees performed for us. They were incredible!! Frank is a multi-talented artist, musician and harmonica genius. I would never have believed a harmonica could sound so good. Ritchie Cannata, the award winning sax player from The Billy Joel Band and The Beach Boys, performed with them. The headliner of the night was Blues Hall of Famer, Sam Taylor. He is a legendary musician, guitar player, singer and songwriter.
At the end of the evening, all three groups came out on the stage and jammed together. The audience was on their feet stomping and swinging and loving it all. We went for a nice evening of blues but came away with a feeling that these performers were making love to their instruments. What a perfect way to spend Valentine’s Day!
They'll all be back at the Center for the summer months starting in June and we definitely won't miss the encore.
