Thrasher's Fries has been an Ocean City Boardwalk landmark since my parents were young (and I'm in my 60's). The main location on the south Boardwalk is located on the southern corner of the pier building - next to Boog Powell's BBQ. There is no inside seating and the outside seating involves the surrounding benches that line the Boardwalk. Be prepared to wait in line. There was never a time that I passed by any of the locations (there are several on the boardwalk now, stretching almost the full length) that there was not a line. The original site was the busiest with lines that stretched and wound along the concrete section of the "boards". The prime eating times of lunch and dinner also brought the longest lines. If you want a shorter wait, go in the middle of the afternoon.
Now, the taste of these fries is what has made them famous. They are cut (with skins left on) into meaty strips and fried in peanut oil to a golden crispness. A good shaking of salt and apple cider vinegar add to the party in your mouth. (I know that there are others now that do their fries this way, but these have been done this way since the 30's and they have it down to a science) Also, I'm sure that the salt air of the ocean adds to the flavor if not the ambiance. The only drawback is the price. The large bucket, which serves several as snacks or a couple as a meal, runs just under $10. Quite a lot for potatoes!!!
Thrasher's has remained in the current location and added satellite locations to better serve the Ocean City area. This says a lot about the quality and consistancy of their product.
Be sure to try these fries when visiting OC. I don't think you will be disappointed with the party in your mouth.
