Description: zeytin
For dinner during our first night of a quick weekend trip to NYC, we headed for Zeytin. I'd read wonderful reviews about this restaurant beforehand so I'd marked in our our 'to-do' list, and am so glad we tried it out.
Located on Columbus Ave in the Upper West Side, Zeytin is a lovely Turkish / Mediterranean restaurant offering lovely fresh and tasty dishes for very reasonable prices. I was already in the perfect mood for fresh Mediterranean food anyway, and by the time we arrived after a long walk through Central Park to the west side, I was even more ready to eat!
We were immediately greeted by the hostess and given the choice of indoor or outdoor seating. Although the cafe tables outside looked invited, we opted for an inside window seat. The service was so effecient and constantly kept up with our needs. We decided on an 'apperitif' style light dinner and just choose a handful of appetizers to share. The haydari (Turkish style of the Greek Tzatziki) yoguart sauce was some of the best I've ever had - very thick and creamy with plenty of mint and dill. We also ordered Phyllo cheese cigar rolls and a falafel plate. They brought out a basket of lovely focaccia style breads as well as tasty olives on a plate of fresh oil.
Prices of the apps and salads started at only $6, and although we missed the happy hour, we saw the special listed on a sign, and it was a prix-fix for about $16 for app, salad, entree, dessert, and glass of wine! Amazing deal for the quality of food here.
This place is going to be on my list of NYC favorites, and will definitely be one for us to repeat in the future.
