Description: There are two Old Hickory Grill restaurants; one inside the Opryland Hotel and this one inside the Music City Sheraton about 10 minutes away.
For our first morning in town, it was the perfect location for breakfast before going to the grocery store for morning meal fixings for the rest of our week's stay in our timeshare.
They offer a limited ala carte menu for breakfast, but at $9.95 to $12.95 for most meals, you'll do better with their nice breakfast buffet at $13.95 including hot and cold items, fresh juice and coffee, tea and/or milk.
The buffet offerings include fresh fruit (pineapple, cantaloupe and strawberries), pastries and muffins, an assortment of breads for toast, bagels & english muffins . . . and the hot items with oatmeal, grits, scrambled eggs, hash browns, american potatoes, bacon & sausage links and biscuits & gravy. There was also an assortment of cold cereals and a fruit basket with bananas, apples and oranges. The cold food was cold and hot food at least warm, if not hot. I especially enjoyed my bagel with cream cheese and lox.
When we arrived, we were immediately greeted by a friendly hostess and subsequently by our server Glenda. Glenda was very attentive and quick to clean used plates and bowls. She also kept the coffee and orange juice glasses filled throughout our meal.
From what I could tell, most everyone in the restaurant was partaking in the buffet, which would be my suggestion for anyone looking for a full breakfast. If you want pancakes or waffles, they do offer those, but there is no reason to pay hotel restaurant prices when you can go right down the street to the local Waffle House for probably half the price.
If you are interested in making an even better deal on your meal and there are at least three of you, www.restaurant.com offers a $25 gift certificate for just $10 . . . which can often be picked up for 50% (or more) off. The only catch is that you must spend at least $35 for a minimum of two dining guests. Our meal including tax, gratuity and the initial purchase price of the g/c was $27; not bad for the three of us.
Perhaps the surprise and value added experience of our meal was Glenda's offer to provide us with coffee or hot tea "to go." Not many restaurants that feature buffets will offer and prepare a "to go" beverage. Maybe it was the cold 35 degrees outside or just the holiday spirit on the day after Christmas, but in any event it was a welcomed gesture that we all accepted.
