Description: Kathy and I were in Manchester New Hampshire for the bi-yearly New England Genealogy Conference and when Sunday rolled around we wanted to find somewhere to have a nice brunch. I did my usual Internet research and one name kept coming up, Richard’s Bistro. Richard’s is the only five star restaurant in Manchester and a quick look at the online menu led me to believe that we would enjoy dining here.
The restaurant was quite close to the hotel, not close enough to walk with my bad knee but close. We found parking in a lot nearby and walked up. There was a sign in front of the restaurant that stated that brunch was $10 that seemed like a good price. We had no idea what a good price it really was. It was about 11:30 by the time we arrived and the restaurant was quite full. We did end up getting a table near one of the front windows.
When you sit at your table they bring you a plate with fruit and cheese. We had grapes, an apple a pear and a wedge of cheese. It was amazing. The fruit is beautiful pieces and the grapes were delicious. We were off to a great start.
The most difficult thing about eating here is having to pick which of the delicious sounding entrees to order. How can you choose between a poached eggs with spinach, crab cakes and Hollandaise strawberries or a blackberry blintz? Cream cheese and raspberry stuffed French toast or Belgian waffles with strawberries? I have to admit, it took us a while, we really discussed and debated the options. Kathy chose the Belgian waffle and I picked the Latkes with sour cream and fresh berries.
While we waited for our entrees we sipped our coffee and were stunned to see a bread basket arrive. We had barely made a dent in the fruit and cheese. The bread basket had a toasted bagel, a cinnamon bun, a blueberry muffin and a piece of coffee cake. It was as beautiful as it was delicious. We began to wonder if we would have any room for our entrees when they arrived.
I have to say that my latkes were beautiful. A healthy stack topped with whipped cream, fresh blackberries and raspberries. It wasn’t just beautiful, it was amazing. The latkes were not heavy they were light . The waffle was perfect, dusted lightly with powdered sugar and with fresh strawberries sliced on top.
I loved this restaurant. Even though they were busy, they never rushed us. They allowed us to enjoy our coffee and kept our cups filled. We had plenty of food to pack up for the trip home. I really wish I lived closer because this would definitely become one of my favorite restaurants. They serve lunch and dinner here as well and if you are in Manchester, I recommend you give them a try.
