A Favorite Florentine Sandwich Shop

I' Ritrovino de' Servi

If you're looking for a great place to grab an authentic Tuscan lunch, no frills, cheap, and tasty...look no further than Il Ritrovino de' Servi. This Florentine owned sandwich shop is a favorite for locals, and although you may run into a few visitors in the mix, you'll mainly be enjoying your meal with mostly Florentines taking a lunch break from their work day.

Located just a couple blocks from the Duomo in the heart of the city center, Il Ritrovino is a small little shop with only about 5 barstools inside. Most people get their panino (sandwich) wrapped to go and eats it standing or walking down the street. If you get there a little early for lunch before the business people arrive, you can grab a stool and eat your sandwich on a cute wooden plate that even has a holder for a wine glass.

This was one of our favorite places to eat lunch when we lived in Florence, and one of the first places we'd bring our guests to as well. If you're a meat-eater (and an adventurous one as well), you can try "lampredotto" - one of Florence's specialties (stomach and intestines of calves). This is one of the top sellers of this shop, as well as the other Tuscan favorite, "trippe" (stomach lining). As vegetarians, we stuck with the roasted vegetable and brie sandwich instead.

The staff are very friendly, and would even wave to us on the street during slower times when they were taking a break outside. The sandwiches are only about 3-4euro, wine is about 1.50euro, and there is normally a seasonal soup offered like Papa al Pomodoro or the like. All the cheeses and meats are cut fresh there, and each sandwich made to order. If you'd like something changed or added (like truffle creme) just ask! This is a must-stop for any visitor to Florence, and even though it's in the heart of the tourist area, you'll feel like a local.
