Upscale Dining in Taormina

While on a business trip I had the pleasure of dining at Baronessa in old town Taormina Sicily. The restaurant is located in a palazzo with alfresco rooftop dining. Service is excellent with attentive and knowledgeable waiters. The Direttore of the restaurant, Alfio, is a handsome and charming man who makes sure that all of his guests feel like honored guests. He makes excellent suggestions for wine pairings and for dishes that aren't even on the menu. He enthusiastically brought out a large tray of fresh porcini mushrooms that had been harvested that morning in the Mt. Etna area. Alfio waved the tray under my nose knowing that I wouldn't be able to resist the luscious aroma. He suggested that I have a filet with porcini and it was absolutely delicious. Other people in my group all enjoyed their dishes. Some of the noteable courses were squid ink risotto, eggplant gnocchi and various seafood entrees.
It was a memorable dining experience with high quality cusine and fantastic service. Excellent wine selections as well. Great place to have a business or VIP dinner. I highly recommend Baronessa.
