Russian Cuisine with a Twist

Russian Cuisine with a Twist

Russian restaurant "Lucien" recently opened in Moscow and is definitely a valuable addition to the gastronomic scene of Russia's capital. The name of the restaurant is inspired on the 19th century chef Lucien Olivier who invented the Russian classic "Olivier" salad.

We visited the restaurant when they just opened last August. The waiter explained us the traditional dishes and how the chef prepared them with a lot of attention for the original recipes but with a contemporary twist.

The use of local, Russian, vegetable and fruit produce and the wide range of locally available fish varieties combined with fantastic home made alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks makes the menu look very authentic and differentiates "Lucien" from other so called "traditional" Russian establishments. For example, hey have this vodka based drink infused with horseradish... Just amazing!

We were delighted by the signature "Olivier" salad with smoked fish and the beetroot salad "Vinaigrette", reminding us that the simplest of products can be so exquisite when prepared with care and inspiration.

I would strongly recommend Lucien if you are looking for a delicate and authentic Russian food experience.

The place is also great for groups with a wide range of small dishes for all to share around a huge old fashioned "samovar" (hot water kettle), dining and socializing for hours in a great atmosphere reminding the great banquets of the Russian golden age.
