We went to the Blue Parrot Bistro after a long day sight-seeing on the battlefields of Gettysburg. The restaurant is a little small and we were lucky to get a table without reservations, I think. The vibe of the place was casual and a little funky, but the napkins were linen and there is a full bar available. I was impressed by evidence that the restaurant is active in supporting the community. There was art by local artists on the wall and signs indicating that they would be holding a fundraiser for a local charity in the coming weeks. There were large hunks of cheese and a basket of crackers available for customers while they waited. Several people greeted us, but it took a little longer than I would have liked for us to get served. If I hadn't had a couple kids in tow and hadn't been pretty tired, I might not have minded so much. There was a very nice variety of dishes on the menu, some higher end, some lower. I think the lowest priced dinner option was a $9 burger and entrees went up to the high $20s. I had a chicken souvlaki salad which was very good. The dressing was freshly made. The marinara sauce on my son's pasta had lots of nice, chunky tomatoes in it. Before our entree arrived we were treated to warm rolls served with both butter and spiced, fresh Parmesan cheese with olive oil. Overall, except for the service being a bit slow, we were very pleased.
