Siam Terrace is the best Thai restaurant in the Champaign-Urbana area. I like to order their Panang Tofu -- cubes of firm tofu are fried to make them chewy on the outside and tossed with fresh green beans and swimming in a sweet and spicey panang curry. Meals are served with a small salad featuring a very fresh tasting grated diakon dressing. I like to order fresh spring rolls at every Thai restaurant. Siam's didn't have much of interest inside, but the thick dipping sauce more than made up for it. Also, the tender rice wrapper was just right, not dried out or too waterlogged.
Siam Terrace employs a pepper system in its menu:
1 pepper = beginner
2 peppers = intermediate
3 peppers = expert
4 peppers = Congratulations! You've become Thai
I've only ordered 1 pepper dishes...and I thought I liked spice. I've got a long way to go in training my taste buds to speak Thai.
The prices at Siam Terrace are reasonable, but you pay for a nice atmosphere and a bud vase with a fresh blossom.
