Sankofa Sfrican Bar E Restaurante

Description

This is a lovely setting in the middle of Pelourinho close to Casa de Olodum. It has been done up by the African owners with a decidely African/International theme. There are flags from all over the world particulary the African Diaspora adorning the beautiful red brick walls. There are also pieces of African art and maps of Africa and a few pieces of Brazilian art as well.

This place is popping especially on Tuesday, Friday and Saturday nights. On Tuesdays there is live salsa. On Friday Magari plays a mixture of Semba (music from Angola) and Brasilian genres. Saturday is usually DJ where resident DJ/owner DJ Sankofa and other DJ's spin a mixture of Ndombolo, Zouk, Soukous, Samba, Afro-beat, Reggae, Salsa, MPB, and other internationally beats.

The drinks have all the classic Brasilian drinks plus some African drinks infused with ginger and other things.

The restaurant is supposed to be opening in November 2008 and that promises to be excellent.

The owner, DJ Sankofa, is a great resource for the goings on in and around Salvador. He is a great personality and is always spinning positive vibrations.

Sometimes the spot can be too crowded but you can always head upstairs and chill out on the balcony.
