If you're visiting Harrisburg, it's worth it to make a side trip to this market if only to see the gorgeous stone buildings, to sample a fried fish sandwich (at Tep's), or to feast on a whoopie pie. This is not the market visit for fine produce, meats, and cheeses (that's on the Lemoyne market) nor is it the market to visit for candles and gifts. Rather, the Broad Street Market offers a sampling of life in Harrisburg.
The front building has food vendors, including some good Vietnamese noodle soups, the fried fish at Teps (caution: long line and slow), good Indian food and various bbq and jerk chicken places. The back building includes some produce vendors, a few meat and cheese places, and some great Mennonite (maybe Amish?) stands selling whoopie pies, baked goods, and the classic Pennsylvania dutch pretzels.
I'm not recommending this place only for the food, though. It's a cultural experience that provides a chance to see a slice of Harrisburg. Here's a link with more information: http://www.broadstreetmarket.org/. Note that it's only open on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.
