Great Italian Restaurant

Mama Ricottas bills itself as Charlottes Most Authentic Italian. Having never been to Italy, I cannot attest to the accuracy of that statement. However, I will say that this is the best Italian restaurant we have been to in Charlotte.

As you come in the front door you see the wood burning oven that is used to fire their pizzas. It is a beautiful centerpiece to the restaurant. After you are seated you will receive a basket of rolls and olive oil. The rolls are very airy and taste almost sweet. The olive oil comes out with red pepper flakes in it so if you don't like spicy food you may want to ask for plain. The plain oil is spicy on its own, though.

On Mondays there is a special menu with half price bottles of wine and discounted prices. This is the best night to get the spaghetti and meatballs. The meatballs are moist and delicious and are made with turkey meat and ricotta cheese. However, on a regular night the dish is overpriced at over 13 dollars. Also on Monday nights there is a special appetizer of fried cheese wedges. The dish is made fresh in the restaurant and not your normal mozzarella sticks.

Be sure to pay close attention to the specials there is always something interesting to be had.

On a regular night, my favorite items to order are the Mama’s salad with Creamy Gorgonzola dressing and the Ravioli di Zucca All'Arancia which is butternut squash ravioli. The salad dressing is housemaid and the salad itself has artichoke hears and roasted peppers. The ravioli is served in a delicious orange cream sauce and is sprinkled with walnuts. The serving size is larger than the standard ravioli order and the filling is tender and almost creamy. You will want to save some rolls or order more to sop up what little extra sauce is served with the dish.

The wait staff is very attentive and friendly. We have always had a great experience here and hope you find this review helpful

We have never had desert at this restaurant because we are always too full from the bread and meal.
