Sunday Brunch Goes South American

Zaguan is a quiet little cafe and bakery on Oak Lawn Avenue. They feature a delicious assortment of coffee drinks, pastries and cakes, homemade juices and smoothies, as well as savory Latin American treats. My favorite is the beef and cheese cachapa, the corn turnover is crispy and sweet with deliciously seasoned, tender pulled beef, and finish with creamy melting cheese. And it comes with a fresh side salad of mixed greens. My fiance loves the arepa, a savory corn turnover, complete with reina pepia, a gooey concoction of avocado and tomato and chicken--seasoned and pulled just like the beef. Their fresh squeezed juice is to do for...but you'll die over the price too at $5 a glass. Normally for two to enjoy the treats I mentioned it runs about $18 for the tab. We eat there about once every other week--definitely a favorite of the locals!
