Mu - Great Steak, Lots of Style

Mu is reputedly the best steak house in Christchurch. It is found nestled amongst an array of other shops and eateries in the city's fashionable SOL (South Of Lichfield) square area, a few minutes' walk from the city centre and Cathedral Square. It's an impressive place, from the outside in. All red lighting and dark wood finish, it does ooze the very notion of steak.

Once you're seated, the menu is impressive. There's a broad range of steak options to cater for every taste and they will even deign to cook one for you if you like your steak well done. The menu states that it will pain them to do so, but they recognise that you are the customer and - if that's how you like your steak (though shame on you if it is) - then they will grit their teeth and cook it however you want.

I had a 500g New York Strip steak and my wife had a 500g rump steak, both cooked medium rare. They were absolutely superb. Perfectly cooked, excellent quality meat, with very well cooked vegetables and a great gpass of house red. All of that, plus a cup of coffee to round out the meal, ran us up a bill of about $90. So this is not a cheap place to eat, but at the same time it doesn't cost the Earth. Looking around other steakhouses, the price was not that different, but I would hazard a guess that the overall dining experience was not as good, so I would recommend Mu if you're looking for a good quality steak dinner.

The service was excellent too. The staff were helpful, attentive and very well informed. Any questions we had were quickly and thoroughly answered.
