Gasthof Noppinger

Gasthof Noppinger came highly recommended by Sallehof for local Austrian cuisine. We had almost given up on finding a restaurant that served Austrian cuisine when the receptionist at Sallerhof directed us to Gasthof Noppinger. In fact, we were given a "voucher" to show to the waitress and instructions to request for the special Sallerhof set dinner at a most affordable rate of €12.

We trooped across to the restaurant at 6.30pm, a 5 minute walk actually and were quickly shown to our seats by a friendly waitress. We were a little early apparently as the restaurant was quite empty. The Sallerhof special was a 3 course meal and guests were allowed to choose a main course from any items on the menu. A fantastic deal for us on a budget. We had the soup of the day (pumpkin), Austrian dumplings and stew, grilled meat platter and the dessert of the day (which turned out to be a platter of assorted cakes and pastries). The servings were large and could have easily fed 2 of us.

Other than a little salty to our taste, the food was delicious and hearty. As the evening progressed, locals seemed to enjoy having a pint and a meal here and the atmosphere turned bustling. Still, the wait staff were patient and brisk in making their recommendations and handling orders. If you are on a budget and staying at Sallerhof, do stop by here to try local cuisine.
