This McDonald's is located in the beautiful town of Waimea. There are large glass windows at this McDonald's so you can see the majestic Mauna Kea Mountain while you eat in the dining area. The decor here is always very bright and modern with chairs that look like they are made out of some kind of metal but they are very light. The tables and chairs are arranged in the restaurant so that each dining area is partitioned. I think that this McDonald's is unique because it is always kept clean by workers since this is a high traffic McDonald's. The service is fast and friendly. Many of the workers here work as a team and try to get your order out quickly even when it gets busy. I have received gift certificates in the past for free french fries from the shift manager when she thought that I waited too long for my order. Bring a jacket to this McDonald's because Waimea town is located 2,500 feet about sea level and it gets really cold and windy up here all year round especially during winter. My friend began working here as a manager and said that he really enjoys working here. You can get the usual here like the value meals, the dollar menu items and the usual favorites like saimin and haupia pies (which they bought back since it was so popular). I usually come here for my medium macadamia nut iced coffee (for $2.70) which is delicious. I used to order their vanilla iced coffee but the macadamia nut iced coffee is better. I noticed that this is one of the only McDonald's on the Big Island that has a self serve ketchup station for customers. Most of the Big Island McDonald's took away there free self serve ketchup stations. The drive thru lane is popular here but a lot of people like to eat inside with their families. It is a nice stop if you want to eat lunch or dinner after going to the beach down the coast (like Hapuna or Spencer Beach). To get here from the coast, turn right on Mamalahoa Highway (19) from the Queen Kaahumanu Hwy and head east up the hill until you reach the intersection with the traffic lights. You will see the Parker Ranch Shopping Center across the street. Turn left until you see the Kamuela Shopping Center. Make another left at the traffic light and drive to McDonald's.
