Pici! Pici!
I love pasta! Maybe too much. How do people survive Atkins? Makes me want carbs just thinking about it.
My B&B host recommended this location as a non-tourist-ripping-off place. I'm glad that he did! I ordered a glass of wine, I don't remember which one, probably one of those that they say this area is well known for (you know, one of the hundred or so - Brunello di Montalcino maybe) and pici all'amatriciana. Well, I think it was all'amatriciana anyways. Don't quote me. The sauce was amazing, the pici, although excellent and probably freshly made, was, in my extraordinarily humble opinion, not really al dente (but the Italians know best...maybe it is supposed to be a little softer!). Pici is a pasta local to this area; think thick spaghetti-shaped noodles. Trust me though, spaghetti is no substitute for pici. Given its popularity in the US, unfortunately I can't find any either. Despite what I may have thought about the cooking time of the dish, a year later I'm still searching for something to match it, so please people, if you are in Montalcino and looking for a place to eat, go here! I'm almost sure I had dessert also, but does it matter? PICI!
