Tastes of Singapore

Sentosa Island is Singapore's Disneyland of resort islands ... with accompanying resort prices to match, but I was on Sentosa and it was lunch time, and I had to eat. I asked a tour guide where I could find Singaporean food on the island, and she recommended Tastes of SIngapore at Imbiah.

I alighted from the free Sentosa bus at Imbiah and walked to the Tastes of Singapore restaurant. It was a very nice-looking restaurant. Diners were supposed to line up at a counter and pick out their food from the display, but a Filipino waiter who noticed I was pregnant very kindly offered me a seat and offered to line up and get my food for me.

There was just one thing I wanted: and that was Singaporean satay (barbecue), served with peanut dipping sauce and with traditional rice cubes on the side. And that's what the waiter got for me.

The satay was really, really good. There was nothing to complain about at all. The peanut sauce was exactly as it should be; the meat was cooked to perfection; the rice cubes were scrumptious.

After my meal I paid, leaving the Filipino waiter a generous tip (even though I'd read in my guidebook that Singapore is not much of a tipping country).

My entire meal was less than S$15.
