Extraordinary Sushi at Sansei

This new restaurant recently opened at the Queen's Shops which is located at the Waikoloa Beach Resort. It opened in February 2008 and is the talk of the town. They have a very good sushi menu that features Pacific Rim cuisine which is featured at a lot of restaurants along the coast. In addition to the full range of signature, innovative, contemporarily styled sushi & fusion foods of star Chef DK Kodama they also serve meat dishes such as steak and fish. We tried their Sansei's Japanese Calamari Salad which was very delicious. It included calamari with spicy Kochujang vinaigrette, served with greens in a crispy Won Ton Basket. We also tried their Panko-Crusted Ahi Sashimi Sushi Roll which included ahi, arugula and spinach wrapped into a sushi roll, panko-crusted, fried and served with soy wasabi (hot green paste) butter sauce. The colors of the sushi were fabulous! This is what captured my attention the most! We didn't think that it would taste very good because we didn't try it before but it was really delicious. We also liked their Takah Sushi Special Roll which is shrimp, ahi, crab, avocado, and cucumber rolled inside-out and crusted with masago. Yummy! Their Apple Tart was a nice way to finish off the meal of sushi. It was very delicious and included a puff pastry topped with apple slices, and served with vanilla ice cream and warm caramel sauce. The decor is upscale casual and relaxing. You can come in for appetizers and drinks or you can try their numerous creative sushi rolls. They have an extensive wine and sake menu. This restaurant is popular with visitors as well as locals. The service was great and the servers are very knowledgeable about the menu. They are open for dinner nightly from 5:30 pm - 10:00 pm. You should make reservations because this restaurant can get very crowded on weekends or when occupancy is up along the South Kohala Coast. There is free parking at the Queen's Shops.
