This is the only public dining facility in the park (Kilauea Military Camp sometimes lets you dine in their cafe without a military ID). This panoramic restaurant overlooks the Kilauea Caldera and includes The Ka Ohelo Room, snack shop and Uncle Geourge's Lounge. This outstanding restaurant serves their ever popular buffet for breakfast or lunch, or a romantic sunset dinner at the Ka Ohelo Room.
The food is hearty, delicious and competitively priced. They have wonderful pancakes served with ohelo berry syrup (seasonal) which is outstanding. In the Ka Ohelo Room, you can enjoy award-winning cuisine along with a dramatic view overlooking the Kilauea Caldera. Their mahimahi with hollandaise sauce is out of this world!
The Ka Ohelo Room is open daily. Breakfast buffet is served from 7am to 10:30am, and the lunch buffet from 11am to 2pm. The snack shop is open from 9am to 5pm. Dinner reservations are recommended. Uncle George's Lounge is open from 4pm to 9pm. Volcano House accepts all major credit cards. There is ample parking out front but it can get busy when the park is crowded.
I would highly recommend this restaurant if you are visiting the park. Remember to bring warm clothes because it gets very chilly at the park (sometimes it can get as low as 50 degrees). It is best to make advance reservations for Volcano House. You need to call the park to see if Volcano House is open because the Halemaumau crater has been giving off a lot of sulfur dioxide gases recently.
