Harrington's

Harrington's is located across the street from the Hilo Seaside Hotel. You can take a lovely drive along Banyan Drive before you reach the end and turn left where you will see Harrington's restaraunt. The strongest feature of Harrington's is the tranquil beauty of Reeds Pond (also known as Ice Pond), one of Hilo's visual wonders. You may be lucky enough to see one of NCL's ships leaving Hilo Bay to sail to Kona. This scenic restaurant serves mainly seafood and steak. The house specialty, thinly sliced Slavic steak swimming in butter and garlic, is part of the old fashioned steak and seafood formula that makes the Harrington's experience a predictable one. The fresh catch of the day, sauteed in white wine and topped with a lightly browned lemon butter sauce, is popular, but it's not for the calorie conscious. Lobster, scallops in chardonnay sauce, chicken Marsala, and New York peppercorn steak are among the American classics on this conscience-busting menu. Service is friendly but it can get slow when it is busy. The strongest feature though of Harrington's is it's oceanside seating. With the open-air restaurant perched on the pond's shore, the view is just beautiful. I would strongly recommend reservations because this restaurant can get very busy, especially when there are a lot of visitors in town. The lunch main courses from from $8.00 to $18.00 and the dinner main courses run from $17.00 to market price (fish market prices vary). They are open Monday through Friday from 11am until 2:00pm and Monday through Sunday they open from 5:30 - 9pm. There is parking in their parking lot and parking alongside the road. To get to Harrington's from Kona, drive south on Highway 19 until you get to Kamehameha Avenue. Continue down Kamehameha Avenue and cross over the intersection (Kanoelehua Avenue) and continue on Kanoelehua Avenue until you see a small brown restaurant in front of Reeds Pond.
