Rue Cler was one of the first restaurants to open in downtown Durham, as it began its revitalization and it is still a popular place to dine today! It is a French Bistro, simply designed, and uses only fresh local produce and meats.
The lunch menu is very simple but delicious. Steak frites, omelettes, croque monsieurs, and the salads are all excellent choices, and standard bistro fare. There are also some specials offered each week. For dinner, there is a $30 prix fixe menu (3 courses), and the menu changes weekly. There are typically three choices for each of the course – salad, first course, and entree. Unfortunately, the menu is not always updated on the website, so just go hungry and with an open mind! The prix fixe is recommended, but you can also order a la carte and get the some of the menu items that are offered for lunch.
As for drinks, there are one or two beers on tap, and a variety of different wines. I’ve heard that there are fresh beignets on the weekends in the bakery, which is right next door.
