Garibaldi Ristorante

It was a cold and very wet evening. We went in search for a warm and friendly place to eat in the heart of Vienna's most exclusive shopping area: Ringstrassen Galerien. It was not as easy as we thought. Most shops were closed or closing (near 7pm) and the area was filled with pedestrians heading home. We were ignored in the first restaurant we entered and were not keen on having fast food for our last night in Vienna.

Garibaldi Ristorante is located along the side lane and looked forbidding at first glance. There was only 1 couple dining at the time when were entered. However, we soon felt at home as the manager gave us a warm welcome. Coincidently, Garibaldi ristorante actually has a branch in Singapore, or so we were informed by the manager (I had expected him to break out in song "it's a small world after all" but fortunately, he restrained himself).

As the name suggests, this ristorante serves traditional Italian food at affordable prices (much to our relief). We settled for the manager's recommendations of tomato soup, salad, house specialties- seafood pasta and steak. These were excellently prepared using fresh ingredients. We were also persuaded to try their dessert platter (resistance was furtile) consisting of tiramisu, zabaglione, cannoli and assorted mini-cakes. Staff was attentive and the manager checked in on us at intervals to make sure all was well.

We were pleasantly surprise to find that we spent less than €20 per person, certainly, a similiar dining experience in Singapore would have cost us more. Although we were disappointed at not able to try authentic Austrian cuisine, we did not regret dining at Garibaldi, a wonderful end to our trip in Vienna.
