This is a tiny cafe located in the historical Andrade Building in the sleepy town of Honokaa. The restaurant is surrounded by tropical watercolors and local art. You can smell the aromas of garlic sauces and pizzas as you enter the restaurant. The owners are Sergio and Dena Ramirez who are from South America. Sometimes you will hear entertainment on certain nights by Sergio since he is a classical and flamenco guitarist. He often rehearses with his group, Adaggio Latino, while contented drinkers sit back and dine on their oven-baked pizzas. Cafe Il Mondo serves pizzas ($10.00 - $20.00), sandwiches ($5.00 - $6.00), and pasta ($8.00).
They are open Monday - Saturday from 11 am - 9 pm. They also serve espresso drinks if you enjoy coffee. Their vegetable pizza, Waipio, is a best-seller, but the Sergio-pesto with marinated artichokes and mushrooms is the one locals like. Sandwiches are served with fresh French, inion, and rosemary buns, all made by local bakeries. Fresh pasta has been added to the menu, and all greens are fresh, local, and organic. There is no parking lot for this restaurant but you can park on either side of Mamane Street. To get to this restaurant drive south on Queen Kaahumanu Highway and take a right on Kawaihae Road until you get to Waimea town. Continue east until you get to a sign that says Waipio. Turn left and drive all the way down to Mamane street and you will see Cafe Il Mondo! I would somewhat recommend this restaurant since it is very laid back and casual. The pizzas are alright but I think the ambiance of the restaurant will draw you in.
