Local Secrets, Big Finds 2007 Pick

  • March 13, 2008
  • Rated 5 of 5 by Local Secrets from New York, New York
Four-pound apple pies, apple or pear dumplings, and apple cider doughnuts are notable specialties at this country store located along the Hood River Valley's scenic "Fruit Loop" drive, but the real showstopper is the fresh fruit piled into everything from thick milkshakes to pies and cobblers. How could anyone refuse ice cream blended with ripe fruit? Summertime in the Columbia River Gorge is all about cherries, peaches, and huckleberries. Jams, jellies, pie fillings, and marinades are whipped up here, too--making it the ideal pit stop for souvenirs to bring back home. From April through October, there's a festival going on about once a month. Celebrate Cherry Days, Apple Dumpling Days, and the Huckleberry Harvest, among others.
