Ever since moving back to the USA from Japan, I'm always searching for great Japanese places that have amazing sushi and the home-style dishes I'm so fond of. Sushi En has great versions of both, plus a few home-style Korean dishes.

I went for the first time last night and just had to try the sushi because of the variety and creativity of the rolls. I had a shrimp tempura roll (an old favorite) and another one consisting of eel, cucumber, and sugar-coated walnuts. Both were absolutely amazing, but the eel really stood out. What a fresh approach for an old favorite! The server also recommended the Hurricane roll and the Hawaiian roll, both of which looked delicious (our eyes were glued on the sushi chefs!). I also ordered a side of Japanese pickles, which turned out to be a generous portion of semi-sweet pickled daikon. My companion ordered one of his old favorites, Hot Stone Bibimbap, along with a side of kimchee. Of course I had to taste both of those as well, and they were both absolutely delicious. The kimchee is spicy, but not overly so, so if you've ever wanted to try it but thought it would be too hot, this kind would be great for you! The Bibimbap portion was enormous and came with about ten toppings. At the end of the meal, we were served tangerines cut into cute shapes.

Our service was quick, friendly, and the server was good-humored and had several recommendations for us. The decor is traditional Japanese but not to the point of being kitschy; it felt homey.

I can't wait to go back for lunch and try their spicy ramen specialty! This place is DEFINITELY worth the drive to Polaris, even if you're coming all the way from campus area. If you think that only Japanese-owned Japanese restaurants are worth going to, let me tell you, you got another thing coming to you, because the Koreans who own this place sure know what they're doing.
