Don’t let the name fool you—Pizzeria Impero is far from your typical pizzeria. Located in Piazza dei Signori, it offers you a beautiful outdoors table with a view of the entire piazza (which is much calmer than its neighbor, Piazza delle Erbe), including the massive monument to Dante Alighieri. A major romantic hotspot, Impero serves a wide variety of Italian specialties. Its first courses and pizzas range from 6€ to 9€ (about $7-$10 American) while second courses are 7€ to 16€ ($8-$18). The pizzas certainly don’t disappoint; Impero offers over twenty distinct varieties, each one weighing in at a hefty fourteen inches in diameter. If seafood or red meat is more your thing, both are offered in abundance. There is a strong selection of wines, which, along with mineral water, are a bit more expensive than similar restaurants. The service makes up for it, however, with food coming quickly despite the restaurant always being busy. Basic Italian is necessary, since many members of the waitstaff don’t have an extensive English vocabulary. Open for lunch and dinner, Pizzeria Impero offers one of the most dazzling views of the heart of Verona—more than enough to win over the heart of whoever you may take there.
