Description: Nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains is the lovely Chateau Morrisette! It's right off the Blue Ridge Parkway at mile marker 171.5, about a 45 minute ride from Mount Airy, NC taking the back roads up to the Parkway. When you see the road turning north at mile marker 171.5 on the Parkway, that's it! Then immediately turn left on Winery Road, which winds up hill a bit, then you're at the Winery and Restaurant. Use the second entrance, which is the main entrance. The main parking lot is between the winery and the restaurant.
The restaurant looks like an old world French country cottage. The grounds and the outside shrubbery give it the perfect atmosphere. The parking lot is all rock, adding to the atmosphere, in the distance you have a panoramic view of the mountains. On the other side of the parking lot is a amphitheatre and picnic tables scattered over the lawn.
The reception area of the restaurant has a wine tasting bar to the left, and the hostess on the right. They encourage you to taste some wine while you wait for your table. Straight ahead are come comfortable sofas, a great spot to taste your wine while you wait for your table.
You can also step outside to the wooden deck for some more pretty panoramic views, and beautiful flower baskets.
We were seated in the dining room on the right. The floors were carpeted. The tables were covered with while linen table cloths. The chairs were high back, black, deep, soft, cushioned vinyl or leather. The tables for two had full arms. The ceiling was about 20 feet high, with high arched windows. It was all slatted wood paneling that had the look of a log cabin. There was a big stone fireplace, and huge 3D pictures on the walls to look like wine vats. There were no curtains on the windows which looked uncomfortable for those siding in line of the setting sun that evening.
The dining room to the left looked even cozier! It had wood floors, but nice curtains with tie backs on the windows, giving it a homey look.
For dinner I got the rainbow salad to start, with honey mustard salad dressing. It was quite delicious! My husband got the Heart of Romaine Tower, and it was also delicious. We each ordered the filet mignon. It was served with garlic mashed potatoes and sauteed summer squash. All of it was delicious! The mashed potatoes were chunky. the meat had a dark gravy on it. But I liked the sauteed squash the best! For dessert, I had the decadent chocolate cake, it actually had the consistency of a soft fudge, it was awesome! My husband had an ice cream sundae, it was like the Snickers ice cream!
It was dark when we left, and we couldn't find the turn for the back road! So we took the Parkway all the way to Hwy 52, adding 20 minutes to the commute.
