Cardona's Mexican Restaurant

Cardona's, a Mexican food restaurant with a rustic atmosphere, is located in the Stockyards. The restaurant is owned by the third generation of a family who started Cardona Bakery in the 1930's which became Cardona Foods in 1965 making tortillas and tortilla chips for the North Texas area. Eventually they opened a cafe then in 2006 this restaurant was opened in the Stockyards. With that great family reputation, this restaurant is a natural to be good. It didn't miss the mark at all.

The food is good and the atmosphere keeps up as well. We dined outside on a porch with a view of the Stockyards, the Stockyards Maze, the stockpen where the longhorns are kept, and part of the rail line where the train engine stops and gets turned around. It was very relaxing to sit along the brick streets, watching the people go by.

We ate the lunch specials which were very reasonable at $5 to $7 per meal. In addition, while we were here they had a special kids under 12 eat free. We have three kids and two of them are under 12, so two were free. Between us we tasted quesadillas, fajitas, and nachos. All were very good. And yes the tortillas, which are made in their own tortilla factory, are really good as well. I would recommend this to anyone and will go back to this restaurant when in the area again.

The restaurant is located on Exchange Ave. in the Stockyards. To get here from I-35W, travel west on NE 28th street(HWY 183), turn left on N. Main, then another left onto Exchange.

Cardona's Mexican Restaurant

So, you are trekking around the Fort Worth Stockyards, maybe after seeing a rodeo, and you are hungry and thirsty. What to do? Walk yourself over to the north end of Exchange Avenue to the very end of the Stockyard's Station building and get yourself a table either inside or outside at Cardona's.

The Cardona family has run a wonderful bakery in Fort Worth for a very long time. There is a strong tradition of high-quality food, properly prepared, at family-friendly prices.

We dined outside with a very good view of all that was going on. I had a plate of squash and corn enchiladas and iced tea. My husband had a huge margarita cocktail and an equally large shrimp cocktail with just enough spice.

All meals come with chips and salsa. There is plenty of room for families and children are certainly welcome and appreciated.

A very nice way to spend a Sunday afternoon!
