Uffa!

Uffa!

The streets of Portland were curiously empty during the holiday weekend. We assumed most of the locals were away for the weekend, which explains why Uffa! did not have a line outside for brunch. We were told by friends to try to get a table at Uffa! for brunch before noon to minimize our wait, but when we walked in, there were only two other groups of diners. We grabbed the empty table by the window and people-watched along State Street.

The Uffa! space is like the comfortable New England house you want to own (in some days when New York City gets a little too much). The high ceilings open up the entire restaurant and the glass windows let the natural light seep through. They have heavy wooden tables and booths surrounded by chairs picked up from different markets; they do not match but each has its own personality which makes up the dining set.

Their omelets are very good here. Up to four ingredients will cost you about $8.50 and I chose spinach, bacon, sausage, and scallions. My boyfriend picked mushrooms, tomatoes, chicken, and brie. Each omelet was served with a small salad and a bunch of grapes on the side as well as toast and hash browns. We had iced coffees and a few glasses of orange juice to push all that food down.

They keep the New England setting when they deliver the bill at the end of your meal. Your check comes in a small wooden keepsake box. We walked out of Uffa! believing we found a treasure, too.
