Street & Co.

Street & Co. was recommended to us by friends because we wanted to try different kinds of seafood while in Maine. We wanted a lounge-y type of place with a decent wine list and Street & Co.'s raw bar was the answer to our desires. We sat by the bar and started off with a couple of white beers while we looked over the menu and listened to the specials of the night.

We saw the size of the main dishes from the orders of the people next to us at the bar and we already decided that we did not want to get full too quickly so we stayed with the small appetizers. Our dining mantra is to keep the portions small so we can taste as many of the restaurant's offerings as possible. For the next three hours, we were in heaven.

With a 2000 bottle of red from Montepulciano, we started with six fresh oysters from the vicinity. A couple of the oysters were sweet and the rest were as salty as the ocean. The Laughing Stock greens came next. The Laughing Stock is a farm in Maine that produces some of the best vegetables. Our salad consisted of some frisee, daffodil, mesclun, and shaved fennel in a light vinaigrette dressing. A tiny portion of pan-seared salmon came next; it was a good and provided a simple break from all the vegetables. The clams in a garlic-y white wine sauce were served next. I could not help but treat the sauce like soup because the garlic flavor was in it subdued by the taste of the fresh clams. We also ordered some seared tuna and that was followed by shrimp escabeche. The cuttlefish with linguine was our last meal. Naturally, our plan to bar hop after dinner was nixed.

Our bartender appreciated that we knew our food because he was very attentive to our needs. He brought out the order we wanted it and he made sure we were enjoying our wine.
