The Lakehouse restaurant

The restaurant is the pride and joy of the Lakehouse. The restaurant commands a beautiful view of the murky lake Sultan Abu Bakar. Its menu features mainly traditional English fare, with the exception of lunch where local nasi goreng (fried rice) is available.

Opening hours

Breakfast: 7:30 to 11:30am
Lunch: noon to 2:30pm
Tea: 3 to 5:30pm
Dinner: 6:30 to 9pm

Staff members are happy to take pre-orders.

There are two breakfast sets to choose from with mainly assorted cereal, oats (porridge), and eggs done in a variety of ways, or try their house specialty omelette accompanied with toast with jam and butter, not forgetting the usual breakfast beverages.

I tried the English traditional fish and chips during lunch. It was most unlike the usual battered-fried fish and chips I had while in London, the US, or Australia. The red snapper fillet was breaded and fried to a golden perfection. Most delicious.

Do not leave without trying their famed English tea and scones, served with whipped cream (it would be perfect if it was clotted cream), butter, and homemade strawberry jam. A perfect accompaniment to a wet gloomy afternoon.

Dinner was just as excellent. I tried their specialities of pan-seared salmon and the lamb medallion on tomato sauce over the course of 2 days. It was fine dining at most reasonable prices. Don't forget to save room for desserts: the cream caramel was creamy with the right touch of sweetness.

Meals were accompanied by soft Celtic music set atop a beautiful, candle-lit table.

*sigh*
