I had read in one of the hotel magazines that Michael Schumacher eats here when he is in town.

We just wandered in no need to reserve. The dining room is large with floor to ceiling windows, good-sized spaces between tables.

Each table was covered with white damask cloths and fresh pink roses with a small candle. To start, a varied array of breads were placed on the table and ice water. Following that, we had a delicious vegetable soup.

Our main course, {mine} was grilled mushroom polenta with mushroom sauce and a medley of fresh vegetables. My husband’s Cheese Gnocchi was light and creamy. I have eaten polenta on some of the best cruise ships but that was the best.

To finish we had apple strudel a local specialty, topped with creamy lemon ice cream. Throughout our trip in Slovenia I had noticed people eating ice cream at all times of the day and had wondered what was so special, well now I know Slovenian ice cream is the best in the world and I am sure there are no calories in it!!!

With our meal, we shared a bottle of red wine {Teran} this comes from the Karst region along the Adriatic Coast, it is dry and full bodied.}
