We had spent all of our day wandering the canals of this city, found a local pizzeria and had great Pizza and wine for lunch {14 Euros} enjoying life at an unhurried pace.

Later in the evening not knowing where we would eat supper, we began our stroll from Piazza Roma heading toward Saint Marks Square; Just under the bridge Del Gulie we found this gem of a restaurant.

As we perused the menus posted on the chalkboard outside a friendly staff member urged us to enter, so we followed him inside. The interior was dimly lit, with a quiet intimacy and warmth.

This restaurant also has a shady garden outdoors, which is where we opted to eat. Tables were quite close together but it didn’t seem to matter because the backdrop of the canal, and the large overhanging plane trees gave us a living movie, watching the world’s citizens pass by. This place serves local dishes, and the service was better than expected in this tourist area.

We started with Soave wine {One of our favorites} and of course, the fresh breads tucked into wicker baskets. I decided on the Gnocchetti with Gorgonzola cheese, my hungry husband, Ravioli with vegetable sauce. We shared our portions and both were generously sized and appetizing. Along with the entrée, we had a lovely crisp salad with real Italian dressing.

To finish our meal we had dessert, always room for that on vacation! Remember zero calories if your having fun. Anyway, I had Crème Caramel, {A dessert I loved in Portugal} and it was yummy, Neil decided on the always fabulous gelato. To make sure we digested our feast we finished the meal with coffee corretto.

Our waiter was busy but affable; he said we were lucky to get a table without reservations. I believed him because the indoor and outdoor dining areas were moderately busy at 7:30pm and heaving at 8:30pm. Venetians eat dinner fairly early by Italian standards.

We both waddled out prepared to walk off any calories incurred, and to enjoy the rest of our evening. This restaurant is a delightful place to dine al fresco, ah yes memories are made of this.
