Pinkberry

There is no doubt that LA is the trendiest city in the US. With our here today gone tomorrow attitude when deciding what is hot and what is not one takes notice when a place just can’t seem to get off the hot and trendy list. For over a year now Pinkberry, aka crackberry (it’s that addictive) has commanded lines that stretch around the block.
These small chains aren’t hard to miss. Each is themed differently however they are the height of trendy. The Pinkberry that I frequent in Pasadena is pained shocking white, baby blue, and lime green. With one wall full of small, cute, brightly colored Japanese toys.

Pinkberry is a tart, Korean yogurt (well according to the state of California it isn’t yogurt, but for purposes of the review I’ll call it that) that is sold in only two flavors: original and green tea. My recommendation is the original for not only its flavor but also because flavor mixes better with toppings that there is to choose from. Toppings range from chocolate chips, fruity peddles, coconut, capital crunch, granola, and cookies and cream. Or take the fruit alternative and add on blueberries, blackberries, mango, lychee, kiwi, bananas, pineapples, and strawberries. My hands down favorite is raspberries. Their natural flavor brings out the tartness of the yogurt and yet lends its sweetness to give it a sentential, unforgettable flavor. The best part is not only does it have a mind-blowing taste, but also it is also good for you. The yogurt has only 25 calories per every 28grams, no trans fat or saturated fat, no cholesterol, 6 grams of carbohydrate, and contains calcium and vitamin C.

If you still aren’t sold on Pinkberry keep this in mind: Pinkberry also became known as the "yogurt that launched a thousand parking tickets" because before Pinkberry branched off to more locations customers who couldn’t find parking would park anywhere and accept a parking ticket as part of the cost of the yogurt.

When you walk up to Pink Berry, the facade is a green storefront with tables and plastic modern chairs lining the front. The store is pretty sleek and streamlined, with a rock tile, if you could call it that.

The service could be more efficient, but they do what they can. The problem is the topping area is so smushed together that only two people can really be putting on toppings at a time.

Pink Berry, a.k.a. "crack berry", is a frozen yogurt joint whose product actually tastes like yogurt that is frozen. There are only two flavors, original, which I guess is described as the white yogurt, plain flavor, and then green tea.

I stick with the original. Although you could ask for a sample of either one before you purchase to see what is right for you.

I was crazy for Pink Berry after my first bite. Why? It's refreshing, and you don't feel like a fat cow after consuming a yummy desert. The toppings include some dry stuff like carob, coconut, and nuts. You won't find Snickers or Oreo as toppings here. The best toppings in my opinion are the fresh fruits. These include raspberries, blackberries, blueberries, mango, kiwi, strawberries, and pineapple.

A small yogurt will cost you $2.50 and $1.00 for each additional topping. Just because you get 3 toppings doesn't mean they give you three times as much toppings, it just means you get more variety, but basically the same amount. Furthermore, with my many trips to Pink Berry, I notice that they count the number of raspberries and blackberries that are actually put on each cup. The blueberries and strawberries are exempt from this treatment because they are topped with a scoop rather than being picked up one by one.

There aren't any in Orange County yet, although I heard a store may be opening in Belmont Shores in Long Beach soon.

There has been a lot of talk about people getting parking tickets and long lines. However, I find that if you go to the one on Larchmont, Vermont, or Melrose there aren't really long lines, like the location in Westwood. However, parking is inconvenient in all these locations.

I'm crazy and can't stop talking about Pinkberry, you should try it. Pinkberry should pay me for my advertising services.
