Twelve dollars for all you can eat pizza, salad, and soup bar (lunch and dinner). Who can pass that up in town full of mediocre restaurants?
The salad bar was very limited—iceberg lettuce, cucumbers, baby corn, peas, red beets, a pasta salad, and a couple other ordinary offerings.
Pizza was pretty good. About five different kinds came out the oven regularly enough so that your favorite was, or soon would be, available. All were thin crust, and the quality of the crust varied, sometimes limp, sometimes nice and crisp. Sitting may have softened the crust, so if you like your’s crisp, look for those that just came out of the oven.
I especially liked the bacon and something pizza. The strongly smoked, almost sweet bacon, was a fine touch on pizza. She liked the herb-loaded pizza best. I liked it, too. Look for the pizza that looks like there is black dust sprinkled on the cheese. Pepperoni was pretty good. One slice was more than enough of the mushroom and garlic.
What is there to say about service? The guy brings your drinks and the check. You do the rest of the work. Drinks and the check came promptly.
Zax also offers steaks, salmon, ribs, sandwiches, and several pasta dishes.
The salad bar is available alone for $6.50, $7.50 with soup. This is a rip off. Go buy a head of lettuce for a buck.
The bottom line: Not the best pizza we’ve had, but far better than the worst. A 6 or 7 on a scale to 10.
