Description: The small town of Stockton has often been described as a ‘meat and potatoes’ kind of town, but on April 13th, 2007 Jasmine Asian Café opened, introducing Asian cuisine to the good folks of Stockton and their surrounding neighbors.
Before Jasmine’s opening, those who craved Asian food often visited one of the many Chinese buffets or restaurants located forty miles to the south in Hays. Today, Stocktonites can take a short drive to Main Street or call in their to-go order, and within minutes have freshly-prepared food.
Jasmine offers many Chinese dishes that locals are familiar with from their travels to Hays: sweet and sour chicken, kung-pao beef, and almond or cashew chicken, along with many other entrees. Their egg rolls are made fresh and are crafted by hand by the owner, Vipawan Thangsuwan, along with the crab Rangoon. They are served with sweet and sour sauce in a dipping cup, or if you ask the right person, hot mustard is also available. The owner promises that Thai food is coming soon, which would make this the only restaurant to serve Thai food within a three-hour radius of Rooks County.
The decor is incredibly charming with handcrafted items adorning the walls, most from Thailand. Jasmine seats about thirty people, which seems to be just about right for the small-town atmosphere of Stockton.
Chopsticks are at all the tables as is soy, and the Asian HOT chili pepper sauce, Sriracha,(the one with the white rooster on the bottle). Thai tea and Thai coffee are available inexpensively, along with hot teas: Lipton, Green Tea, and Jasmine Green Tea. Also, Pepsi products are available, but most folks in this town and the people who dine here drink water or Lipton Ice Tea. The prices are very reasonable here. All entrees are priced at $5.59, except for the Thai dishes which are only $5.99, and appetizers are just .99 cents, plus tax.
Located on the intersection of two highways, 183 and 24, it should be a nice location for hungry travelers as well. The address is 411 Main Street, but there are no numbers on most of the buildings here, so look for the window sign or the smiling faces as they leave this cute and quaint place.
Jasmine is smoke-free and family friendly!
