I can guarantee you that I won't eat the same dish every return. Menus change often. Last visit. Kobe beef sliders and lobster consume with fresh pea ravioli. This visit. Japanese tea smoked duck. Love the bar scene

Cafe Routier

I have read lots of wonderful reviews about this restaurant which made me want to try it. I took a look at the menu on their website and realized that the tapas menu in their lounge was going to be perfect for us.

We arrived at about 6:30 on a Tuesday evening and the lounge was hopping. There was one of the tables along the wall empty and we quickly made our selves comfortable. This is one of those tall tables for two with tall stools with a rich burgundy vinyl seat. The bar dominates the room and all the bar stools were filled with people laughing and talking. The lounge is not a quiet romantic spot, the tables are quite close and the noise level is very high.

Service was excellent. Our waitress noticed us as soon as we came in and had menus in our hands directly. There are two menu’s in the lounge, the tapas and the meals. In the meals area they offer seasonal, regional (now it is Savoie France) and the specials. The regional and seasonal menus change monthly. Before I tell you all the choices you will have I want to tell you what we ordered.

As I already stated I checked out the menu online and saw that they had Thai mussels in a coconut red curry sauce, how could I resist. I also ordered a side of their homemade fries. Al ordered the Philly Cheese steak and an order of the homemade fries. Our waitress came by and asked if we would like bread with our meal and brought us warm crusty rustic bread and olive oil to snack on.

The fries will stun you, they are a huge serving with a creamy mayonnaise based sauce for dipping. We really could have shared but we are glad we didn’t have to. They were perfect, perfectly cooked, perfectly salted, perfectly delicious. My mussels were beyond perfect. I am a bit of a mussel snob and these certainly rated with the best I have ever had and the sauce, where do I begin? Let me put it to you this way, they serve the mussels in a bowl and they give you a soup spoon as well as a little fork. You will use that spoon to finish up the broth like soup, it’s that good.

Al’s Philly steak was very nice as well. Exactly what you would expect a smallish hoagie roll with slices of beef and cheese and fried onions. There was lettuce and tomato served on the side with a pickle spear.

Some of the other offerings on the lounge menu included steak on a stick with a peanut dipping sauce, Savoie cheeses, a meatloaf sandwich and a Cuban sandwich. One of the specials on this particular night was crab empanadas.

Since the regional and seasonal change monthly I can’t promise that any of these items will be offered when you come but whatever they have will be great.
