Not Good!

The service left something to be desired. My drink had to be sent back 3 times because it was incorrect. The cheese on my salad was moldy and the entrees tasted as if they had been heated up just before serving.

New Orleans Restaurant Creative Cooking

Staying at Waters Edge it would seem that the natural thing to do would be to have Sunday Brunch there since their brunch has been voted the Best in Ct. on more than one occasion. What kept us from doing that was the $29.95 per person price. If you are looking for a carving station and all the fabulous desserts then this is the brunch for you. We however wanted something less expensive and less extensive. We had seen a sign along the road that said Sun day brunch $12, this was more in line with what we wanted to spend.

New Orleans Restaurant is exactly what you would expect, a creole, Cajun restaurant that serves lunch and dinner daily. The sign that identifies the entrance leads in through the kitchen which is a little disconcerting so we walked back out and went into the front door. Other people did come in through the kitchen so I guess that is okay.

The interior is very attractive with a dining room on one side and the bar on the other. The brunch was served in the bar area. We were the first people to arrive this day at 10:15am; the brunch begins at 10am. We looked over the offerings on the buffet, chicken gumbo, jambalaya, pork loin Beaumont, crawfish etouffee, homefries, kielbasa, and scrambled eggs. When we first checked out the serving dishes the egg dish was empty. Our waitress assured us that eggs would arrive fresh, the cook doesn’t like them sitting around he makes them fresh when customers come in. There were also English muffins to toast, a fresh green salad and a fruit salad. Seemed like a nice buffet for $12. If you prefer you can order off the brunch menu which has an omelet with crab, andouille sausage, spinach and cheese, poached eggs, and chocolate French toast among other offerings. The Big Bad Daddy sounded like something Al would like, a 6oz NY stripe steak on a bed of spinach and an English muffin with lobster sauce, homefries and fresh fruit, all this for $14.

The scrambled eggs came out shortly and we headed up to fill our plates. The eggs were excellent and so the cook is right, fresh is best. I loved the chicken gumbo, I even went back for a second bowl. Al’s favorite was the jambalaya.

If you like an alcoholic start to the day Mimosa’s, Bloody Mary’s, Bayou Blue, Hurricanes, Sangria and Cajun Coffee are offered. In case you are unfamiliar Cajun Coffee is New Orleans community coffee and Puccino liquer. We opted for coffee straight and black, and our cups were kept well filled. While this isn’t the best brunch I have ever had, it was very good and very well priced. The selection is small but the quality of the offerings is high.
