This is the only spot to get Mexican food in the SUMC. And, surprisingly, it’s good.
Because I’m a student and love a bargain, I love their daily specials. They include an entry, rice and beans (usually with the exception of the taco salad), and a 22-ounce fountain drink for around $3. And the entries are pretty good too.
One of my personal favorites is the chicken taco salad. A crispy, and just slightly greasy, shell filled to the brim with amazing beans (not quite as good as Miches, but oh so close), ho-hum greens, chicken, tomatoes, black olives (if you ask for them, and it makes it that much better), cheese (I leave this off), sour cream (ditto), and guacamole (made with cottage cheese, which is just plain WRONG!). It really makes for a great lunch.
Another entry is two beef tacos. They probably rank on par with Taco Bell, but it’s not a bad thing to have for lunch.
There burritos are also pretty good, due mostly in part to the quality refried beans. They essentially have the same toppings range as the taco salad.
What really makes this one of my favorite spots for lunch is the dining area. Its deep Southwestern-style chairs and quiet eating area make it a nice change from the food court.
The only drawback is the occasionally slow service, but I’d rather have slow service and good food than fast service and bad food.
Good food, great prices, and great seating earns this place a highly recommended.
