Gun Barrel Steakhouse

That night we went and ate at the Gun Barrel Steakhouse. This is a very neat place to go. When you walk in the door, you see a mounted bear in the window and then by the hostess desk is a full mounted Bison. My son loved walking around the restaurant and looking at all the animals. They had a mountain lion, some elk and moose mounts, and much more. I have read previously that the restaurant used to be a museum and they bought many of the items from them when they turned it into a restaurant.

They served steaks, wild game, ribs, and chicken. They also had a children’s menu. We ordered bison as an appetizer and it came with bread and cheese. Then we had two that ordered steaks, one prime rib, and I ordered the ribs. All the food was good and quite tasty. It came with a loaf of fresh bread and butter and also with a vegetable and your choice of potato or rice. I chose the rice, one chose the baked potato, and another chose the baked sweet potato. All our food was very good.

The waiter was very nice and didn’t seem to mind us walking around with my son looking at all the animals in the restaurant. The service was also very quick. It was not a cheap place but definitely not nearly as pricey as many of the restaurants on the town square. This was my second trip to this restaurant and I will return again.

We were staying in the Best Western Lodge and this restaurant was located just across the parking lot, so it was very convenient and we walked. The restaurant is just about a mile from the Jackson town square.

The restaurant is in a former taxidermy museum and has a Western log look. It is full of many game trophies and different items. All the tables and chairs are in an old wood look and there is plenty you can see on the walls from any table in the room. The restaurant has a full bar.

During our trip to the restaurant, we were seated and given our menus quickly. The menu has starters that include: Venison Bratwurst, Fried Green Tomatoes, Bison Carpaccio, Snake River Potato Boats, Firebrand Shrimp Skewer, and Grilled Caribou Wrap. They also have salads and soups that include: French Onion Soup, Field Greens, Fresh Spinach Leaf Salad, Caesar Salad, Chicken Caesar Salad, and Salmon Salad.

The dinners are served with vegetables and a choice of garlic mashed potatoes, baked potatoes, sweet potatoes, or wild rice. The entrees include: Rib eye, elk, Tenderloin, Prime Rib, Classic Strip, Elk Chop, Buffalo Ribs, Buffalo Sirloin, T-Bone, Mixed Game Grill, Baby Back Ribs, Roast Pork Medallion, Trout, Mesquite Chicken, and Salmon. They also serve the following dessert choices: Fruit Cobbler, Apple Pie, Bread Pudding, Chocolate Cake, Cheesecake, and Crème Brulee.

We all ordered something different and everyone’s meal was really good. The service was also good and the staff was friendly. I would visit this restaurant again on a future trip. It is definitely an interesting place with good food.
