After being tossed around like at salad at the Monet exhibit, I was ready to crawl to my car and head my mini-van (yes I do admit to have one) towards home. I had about a 2.5 hour drive ahead of me and knew once I got going good I would not want to stop. Even though I was still somewhat full from lunch, I knew if I didn’t eat now hunger pains would call me later.
I was craving some BBQ and headed over to Don Murray’s. I pulled into the parking lot and got a chuckle out of the small house perched atop their sign. Inside the restaurant is just your average restaurant with tables. Non-descriptive and nothing out of the ordinary. Of course when you have food like this you don’t need to worry about fancy décor.
It was still fairly early and not too many people inside. I sat at my booth and my waitress came right over. She never did offer her name, but none the less was an outstanding waitress. She took my order and within minutes brought out my glass of tea and small pitcher for refills. A minute later out comes my order. I have the pork plate with BBQ beans, corn on the cob, and hushpuppies. The BBQ here is Eastern or Lexington style. It is a vinegar based sauce and this one had a bit of a kick to it. And ohhhh mama was it good. The portion was enough that I had extra left to take home to John. I was too full for dessert but did glace at the menu and they offer pies and cobblers.
Don Murray’s menu has BBQ and seafood as well as burgers and sandwiches. They also have a buffet. They also have plenty of those "Best of" Awards just so you know they are that good! They are less than 5 miles from the downtown area. Hours are:
Mon-Sat 11am–9pm
Sun 11am-8pm
