Great Food but Ask Questions

Our steaks were probably the best we have had anywhere in the area. My wife ordered the ribeye "special" which we assumed, as you always do when you dine, that the special is a somewhat lower price. To our amazement we were charged $32 for the ribeye special. No mention was made by the waitress of the higher price with only a slightly larger portion. I don't mind paying for a great steak, which this was, but $8 more for the "special" makes me think this is just another way to get more money out of the customer without being upfront about it. Our friends told us to ask lots of questions but I guess we didn't ask enough.

Gun Barrel Steak & Game House

Nicely done steakhouse on the northwest end of St. George. The elk chop was spectacular and the side dishes well prepared and tasty. Although game is the speciality, the mesquite-flavor of the chop suggests that their steaks will be delicious. The local Wasatch on draft is chewy and refreshing. A pleasant stop after a hard day's work.

Be advised that for a franchise steakhouse the Gunbarrel is quite expensive - I'm not sure if I'd have stopped here if I we not on an expense account. And even on a slow weekday evening there was nothing in the dining room - reservations are recommended.

The Gun Barrel Steak & Game House

The Gun Barrel is a steakhouse with a menu that includes buffalo, elk, trout, and salmon. Their meats are grilled over mesquite wood to create a flavorful and characteristic taste.

The atmosphere includes a bit of history in the St. George area. Old newspaper articles are hung in the entrance way with pictures from pioneers that settled the area. The wood trim and the table tops are made of trestle wood from the railroad that went around the Great Salt Lake. The service is terrific and the desserts are to die for!
