Momos Greek Taverna

We gave Momos two chances and were extremely disappointed both times. We were really excited to find a good Greek restaurant. My husband is Greek-American and we spent a lot of time in Greece... so, perhaps, our standards are a little high. The first time we had reservations on a Friday night and never got seated! We were told that they cannot ask the previous diners to leave.. (??), so after an hour and 15 minutes, we gave up and left. Six months had elapsed and we figured we'd give them another shot so desperately wanting to eat real Greek food. We went on a weeknight without a reservation. Granted, the ambiance and decor are nice. However, there wasn't one dish we tasted that we found to be authentic or even of good quality. The Taramosalata was basically mashed potatoes, didn't come close to the real thing. The spanakopita was deep fried! We were astonished.. so much for the light Mediterranean diet. And then the lamb was undercooked (raw in the middle) and we had to send it back. To top it all off, it tasted like the wine was watered down. And all of this cost us $60. So, if you want the real deal, steer clear of this place!

Try a sampling of several Greek dishes. I am not experienced enough to give a review of every menu item, but I can guarantee that whatever you order will be superbly delicious. Personally, I have had the Papou, which is made with shell pasta, artichokes, spinach, sun-dried tomatoes and feta. I have also sampled their Hummus spread with pita bread—excellent! Third, I tried the Spanikopita, which consists of phyllo baked with spinach, leeks, and feta. They also have a wide variety of drinks from the bar.

Finally, they feature a belly dancer for your entertainment while you dine. I highly recommend this restaurant located in University City, the heart of St. Louis. The restaurant has a very open, friendly atmosphere, and can choose to be seated either inside or outside on the patio. This was definitely one of the better restaurants I have experienced in St. Louis.
