I love my French restaurants and regularly will drive an hour into the city or even 2 hours into Napa to eat at some of my favorite places. A local places which I think are just as good and that have good prices (for the ambiance and quality of preparation) is Le Papillon. I have been coming here for a long time and like almost everything on their menu (except I would probably order their duck last after everything). I love their beef medallions and LOVE LOVE their souffle...tell them you want the souffle when first ordering your entrees since it takes time to prepare. It is a restaurant specialty and you won't regret it. The parking near the restaurant is nice but crowded and right next to it are some slightly shady looking convenience stores, etc so you may not want to take your nicest cars, but I've seen Ferraris parked out there with no problems although their owners may have been sweating bullets inside. I'd recommend making reservations, unless you are going early.
