Star Chicken

Star Chicken is a fast service restaurant located inside the Rolling Hills Plaza off of Crenshaw and Torrance Boulevard in Torrance. It’s in a small strip located directly opposite of the Macaroni Grill. I dined near the end of a weekday lunchtime with a friend.

There’s a menu board above the counter/cashier with all sorts of chicken dishes, sandwiches, and wraps. There are also side dishes such as potatoes, creamed spinach, and the like. Directly behind the counter is a gas fired rotisserie with dozens of chickens being roasted. Next to the cashier stations are the various side dishes on display.

I ordered the half BBQ chicken wrap lunch special which comes with a side. I chose the macaroni and cheese. My friend chose the quarter chicken lunch special which also includes a side. After much pondering, he chose the creamed spinach. We also each purchased soft drinks. Our total came out to about $11. Not bad!

We were given a number and we chose a table and waited about 5 minutes before our food was brought out to us. Our food was quite good. My half BBQ wrap had chunks of BBQ chicken, black beans, cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, and BBQ sauce wrapped up in a tortilla. It was a slight bit messy on the hands to eat though. My macaroni and cheese was pretty good. My friend devoured the quarter chicken and said it was quite savory. I tried some of his creamed spinach side dish and found it pretty good as well.

The cashier later brought out the other half of the BBQ wrap and gave it to me. She said since lunch was ending, they probably wouldn’t have used the other half anyways. That was quite an unexpected and welcome treat!

If you’re in the mood for chicken, I recommend this place. The staff is friendly and the food is good. I did notice that the only meat served was chicken, and there didn’t seem to be any other meat, such as beef or pork available. But then again, the name of this restaurant is Star CHICKEN!
